چکیده

used as a substitute not only for epithelial cell proliferation, but also as a substrate for epithelial cells to attach to, and was transplanted permanently to repair a large intraoperative conjunctival defect and to form a filtering bleb. Meanwhile, an additional temporary AM transplantation was used to protect the primary AM transplantation until epithelialization was complete. Although repair of conjunctival buttonholes with AM during trabeculectomy has previously been reported [1], the conjunctival area permanently replaced in this case was of exceptional size. In conclusion, permanent AM transplantation accompanied by simultaneous temporary AM transplantation can form an AM bleb. Permanent AM transplantation may be an appropriate alternative treatment option for large conjunctival defects that occur during trabeculectomy.

Changes in Spherical Aberration after Various Corneal Surface Ablation Techniques

PURPOSE The corneal change induced by refractive procedures influence both the postoperative refractive status and the ocular spherical aberration (SA). We evaluated changes in corneal SA after three types of surface ablation: phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK), myopic photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), and myopic wavefront-guided laser epithelial keratomileusis (LASEK). METHODS Twenty-six ey...

Corneal cooling and rehydration during photorefractive keratectomy to reduce postoperative corneal haze.

PURPOSE An increase in corneal temperature has been implicated in subepithelial haze after surface photorefractive keratectomy. We aimed to determine if cooling the cornea by means of hydration between ablations and immediately after final surface ablation in PRK reduces haze. METHODS One hundred five eyes of 61 patients with myopia ranging from -6.00 to -9.75 D were included. One of the surg...

Mitomycin C in photorefractive keratectomy.

PURPOSE To evaluate the outcome of primary or retreatment photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) or phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK) with mitomycin C (MMC) 0.02% applied prophylactically intraoperatively for the prevention of haze and regression in cases of significant haze and regression after primary PRK, due to previous radial keratotomy (RK), in primary PRK eyes with high myopia, and in comeas...

Combined PRK and PTK in myopic patients with recurrent corneal erosion.

AIM To study the results of combined photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK) in myopic patients with recalcitrant recurrent corneal erosion. METHODS PRK was performed in 16 eyes with the Visx 20/20 excimer laser at a central 6.0 mm zone, following total epithelial scraping. Subsequently, confluent 3.0 mm zones of PTK were ablated at a depth of 6.0 microns, sur...

Transepithelial PTK/PRK over complicated LASIK flaps.

To the Editor: We read with interest the recent contribution by Dr. William Bond (Bond WI. PRK over incomplete LASIK flap [letter]. J Refract Surg 2000;16:483). We are convinced that some variant of the technique he described, which we think is probably more appropriately referred to as transepithelial PTK/PRK, will eventually become the procedure of choice for the treatment of some patients wh...
